LHS Band Students in OMEA District VII

Honors Jazz Ensemble

Louisville High School Band Students Aubrey Harter, Alicia Schwartz, Seth Jackson, Ken Schwartz, Nick Koehler, and Kevin Long participated in the OMEA District VIII Honors Jazz Ensemble held at Kent State Stark University. There were two jazz ensembles which were directed by Mr. Jack Schwantz, Director of Jazz Studies at The University of Akron; Mr. Robert Feldbush, Director of the Kent Stark Jazz Society; Mr. Kent Englehart, Director of Jazz Studies at Youngstown State University, and Mr. Paul Ferguson, Director of the Settlement Jazz Orchestra of Cleveland. The students rehearsed on Saturday and enjoyed master classes given the clinincian/directors. The day ended with a concert.

Honors Wind Ensemble

LHS Band Students selected for Kent State University Honors BandOn January 19th Kevin Long, Jason Long, Alicia Schwartz, Ken Schwartz, Seth Jackson and Kayla Koontz performed with the Kent State University Honors Band. Students from both Ohio and Pennsylvania were selected through taped audition. The students were on campus for rehearsals all day Friday and Saturday and performed a joint concert Saturday night with the Kent State University Wind Ensemble. Both bands were under the direction of Dr. Wayne Gorder.

LHS Band Student Earn All-State Honors

Alicia Schwartz, daughter of Stan and Anita Schwartz and a sophomore at Louisville High School, performed with the Ohio All-State Band February 8th, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Membership in the OMEA All-State Band is open, by audition, to all Ohio high school instrumental music students. Alicia prepared a required tape to audition for the band and was one of four alto saxophones to be selected from Ohio. Alicia is a private student of Mrs. Karen Long.

The Ohio All-State Band performs in conjunction with the State Music Educator’s Convention. This year the band was conducted by Professor Mallory Thompson who is the director of bands at Northwestern University in Chicago. The band performed a very difficult program and was rewarded with a standing ovation from the over 2000 in attendance.

OMEA East Central Region
