ENROLLING, DROPPING BAND, AND DISMISSAL FROM BAND

ENROLLING IN BAND
1. Before the students’ first year in the L.H.S. Band they must have passed the Level III proficiency test.

DRAGE VOCATIONAL STUDENTS
1. Drage Vocational School students may participate in the marching band and will receive 1/2 credit.

2. Drage students may not participate in band during concert season.

DROPPING BAND PROCEDURE
1. A student may only drop band the last day for students of the preceeding year with no penalty.

. After the informed date, band may be dropped for the following reasons without penalty at the discretion of the principals and director:
a
. Not capable of handling the level of music required
b. Severe illness
c. Injury that limits participation
d. Extreme circumstances

DISMISSAL FROM BAND
1. A band student may be dismissed for the following reasons:
a. Missing performances
b. Disruptive behavior in any band activity
c. Repeated failure to have necessary equipment
d. Persistent uncooperative attitude
e. Failure to pass Level III Proficiency
2. Procedure for dismissal is as follows:
a. Discussion with the student about any of the reasons
b. Discussion with, meeting with, or written note to the parent of the student
c. Week suspension from band with a F for each day or similar action
d. In the case of failure to pass Level III Proficiency, a student will have until the end of the nine weeks to pass that level. At that time, a student will be dismissed from the band program.

3. If a student is dismissed from the band as a result of the above action an F will be recorded for the class and no credit will be given. The dismissed student will not be permitted to enroll in the band program for the student’s remaining years in high school, unless permission is received from the director.
